Frequently asked questions.

Does hypochlorous acid burn skin? or irritate eyes?

Hypochlorous acid is considered a "weak* acid, so it does not burn the skin or irritate eyes as other more powerful acids do.

What are the advantages of hypochlorous acid-based over bleach-based and alcohol-based disinfectants?

Hypochlorous acid can disinfect 80x more effectively than liquid bleach (Sodium hypochlorite) but is not toxic and non irritating. Unlike bleach and alcohol, which leave toxic residues after use, hypochlorous acid does not leave any trace when it devolves into salt water and the primary elements chlorine, hydrogen and oxygen.

Is hypochlorous acid safe for use by children and pregnant or breastfeeding women?

Yes, hypochlorous acid is the main active ingredient of many disinfecting products used to disinfect nurseries, baby nipples, breast-feeding equipment and bottles.

How do I store Ionx and other hypochlorous acid-based products from Hydrionx?

Ionx and other hypochlorous acid-based products should be stored in a cool, dark place and held in a container that minimizes exposure to outside air. Ideally, the head room (i.e. empty space in a bottle above the liquid) should be minimized also.

How do I ensure the best result from using Ionx product?

We recommend that you carefully follow instructions prepared by Hydrionx when using unendorsed fogging equipment and Hydrionx's Dry Fog producing liquid, Ionx . It is important to keep in mind that the air will have to reach a minimum saturation level for a minimum time period to ensure adequate contact with surfaces to achieve disinfection.

What is spraying?

Spraying is using some type of spray nozzle to create a mist of liquid; however, with spraying the diameter of the droplets produced is not normally smaller than 25 microns.

What is fogging?

Fogging normally uses an ultrasonic transducer (i.e. a very high speed vibrating membrane) to create minuscule droplets, some as small as 1 or 2 microns in diameter.

How much of Ionx is made up of water?

Approximately 99.7%

What is the pH of Ionx?

Approximately 5.2 - 5.8

What is Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP) of Ionx?

Approximately 900-1000 millivolts

What is the Free Available Chlorine (FAC), sometimes called Available Free Chlorine (AFC), of Ionx?

Approximately 200-250 ppm

What are the safety benefits of Ionx?

Ionx does not cause any toxic effect to humans when contacted with skin, eyes, nose and throat. Ionx® can be ingested and not cause any poisonous effects.

What is Hydrionx' hypochlorous solution?

A number of Hydrionx products are made with the active ingredient hypochlorous acid. In fact, a proprietary formula for hypochlorous acid is the core technology in most of Hydrionx products.

What are the main effects of hypochlorous acid on the human body?

Hypochlorous acid is used by white blood cells to kill pathogens in the human body as one of an array of immune responses, so the human body is used to exposure to and the presence of hypochlorous acid.

What are Free Available Chlorine (FAC) molecules?

Measures the amount of the ion of the element Chlorine (aka Cl-) that is present and available to combine with other elements and chemicals.

Does hypochlorous acid leave any toxic residue after use, as is commonly the case with other disinfectants?

No.

Is hypochlorous acid an oxidant?

Yes.

What is Sodium hypochlorite?

Commonly called bleach in liquid form, Sodium hypochlorite is a household chemical widely used (since the 18th century) as a disinfectant or a bleaching agent.

What types of pathogens does hypochlorous acid kill?

Hydrionx's hypochlorous acid can successfully eradicate biofilm and is a highly effective disinfectant against bacteria, viruses, pathogens, germs, bugs, spores, algae, yeast, mould and fungi.

How does hypochlorous acid affect the human gut biome?

As the active ingredient in Ionx, hypochlorous acid is the body's natural defense mechanism, it does not kill normal bacteria (the good microbiome) responsible for the physiological processes of the human body.

Is hypochlorous acid dangerous to humans or animals?

Hypochlorous acid proved not to be toxic to animals, insects and humans. Hydrionx has never tested our hypochlorous acid on animals but there are numerous published data that refer to the safety of hypochlorous acid in multiple animal studies.
